Pantaleón Castle calls for prudence in the Senasa Case

Santo Domingo.- The jurist José Manuel Castillo Pantaleón stated this [day] that professionals and citizens have joined the mobilizations for the Senasa Case, highlighting the importance of social empathy and the responsibility of judges and lawyers in contexts of high public indignation.

“Many professionals are here supporting the sentiment of the population, which is one of very legitimate indignation. Judges have to play a social role and understand that collaboration agreements do not exempt the responsibility of those who received or gave money while being public officials,” expressed Castillo Pantaleón.

The jurist emphasized that the professional practice of law implies prudence, especially when the measures requested for the accused can generate social reaction. He pointed out that, in some cases, preventive detention may be the safest measure to protect the integrity of the accused and avoid social disturbances.

"Obviously, each lawyer handles their clients as they best understand. I am not here as a lawyer, I am here as a citizen, being supportive and empathetic," emphasized Castillo Pantaleón, who assured that his intervention seeks to provide clarity on ethical and social responsibility in judicial processes of great magnitude, without interfering in the work of the judges or in the professional practice of other lawyers.

The jurist also criticized the actions of certain informants involved in multiple cases, warning about the ethical complexity of their role and the need to weigh the scope of collaboration agreements in situations of corruption.
