Gilgeous-Alexander reaches 100 consecutive 20-point games in Thunder's victory

MIAMI.– The Oklahoma City Thunder reacted after their most recent defeat and defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 119-103 this Monday, in a game in which Shai Gilgeous-Alexander reached a historic mark by scoring 100 consecutive games scoring at least 20 points.

With this achievement, Gilgeous-Alexander became the second player in NBA history to reach that figure, surpassed only by Wilt Chamberlain, who recorded 126 consecutive games between 1961 and 1963. The guard, current Most Valuable Player of the league, led the Thunder's offense with 31 points, in addition to 10 rebounds and 8 assists, coming close to a triple-double. Jalen Williams was the team's second-leading scorer with 20 points. The milestone was reached with a characteristic play by Gilgeous-Alexander: a jump shot from the free throw line after a step back, which left his defender with no defensive options. For the Grizzlies, the offense was distributed among six players with double figures. Cedric Coward contributed 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 16 points, with an effective 5 of 6 from the three-point line. The Spanish Santi Aldama, who was coming off of signing the best scoring game of his career with 37 points against Washington, had a discreet night, finishing with "9 points and 7 rebounds", shooting 4 of 13 from the field. The victory for Oklahoma City began to take shape in the final minutes of the second quarter, when the Thunder achieved a partial score of 18-9 to extend a lead that until that moment was minimal. Although Memphis threatened in the last period and got within four points (101-97) after a three-pointer by Caldwell-Pope, Gilgeous-Alexander and Branden Carlson responded with two consecutive three-pointers that sealed the result. With the victory, the Thunder set their record at 26-3, avoiding consecutive losses after recently falling to Minnesota. For their part, the Grizzlies continue in the fight for the 'play-in', with a record of 13-16, after winning nine of their last 14 games.
