RD$2,000 debt would have caused a man's death by shooting in Puñal, according to the Police

Santiago.– A debt of just RD$2,000 would have been the trigger for a violent event that left one man dead and another wounded by a gunshot on Thursday night, on the Matanza highway, Matanza sector, Puñal municipality, Santiago province, the National Police reported.

The mortal victim was identified as Emmanuel Payano Rosario, of 40 years old, who died while receiving medical attention at the Dr. José María Cabral y Báez Regional University Hospital, after being shot.

In the same incident, Carlos Gabriel Rosario, 29 years old, was injured and remains admitted to a health center with a gunshot wound. According to the preliminary report, the attack occurred when the alleged aggressor, Harinson Mateo, went to the place to claim the payment of the debt, originating a discussion that escalated violently and culminated in the firing of several shots. After committing the act, Mateo fled and remains a fugitive, so agents of the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Dicrim) are maintaining an active operation for his location and capture. The case remains under investigation, while the authorities reiterated the call for the alleged perpetrator to surrender to the authorities and answer for this crime that has generated consternation in the community of Puñal.
