Mets sign Dominican shortstop Wandy Asigen for US$3.9 million

Asigen, a native of Puerto Plata and just 16 years old, is the number two prospect in MLB Pipeline's international Top 50 and the highest-rated Dominican in his class, solidifying himself as one of the most important signings of the current recruitment period.

The young shortstop had previously had an agreement with the New York Yankees, but decided to withdraw from it in December, which opened the door for the Mets to enter the scene and secure his signing. With this hiring, the Queens organization adds a player that evaluators consider an immediate impact talent.
He is a number one”, said an international scout referring to Asigen's potential.

Wandy Asigen has been described by scouts as a player with an uncommon combination of hand speed, emerging power, athleticism, and premium defense at shortstop. His explosiveness on the field and his physical projection place him among the prospects with the highest development ceiling in the entire international class. His ability to hit the ball with authority from both sides of the plate, along with his defensive range and strong arm, profiles him as a long-term elite shortstop within the Mets system. With this move, the Mets continue to reinforce their minor league system with top-tier international talent, betting that Asigen will be one of the future faces of the franchise. The signing of US$3.9 million places Wandy Asigen among the highest bonuses of the 2026 class and confirms the Mets' commitment to compete off the field as well, in the global talent market.
