Tourism breaks contracts with Iberia due to deficiencies in service to Dominicans

Madrid, Spain.– Minister of Tourism, David Collado, revealed this Friday that the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) decided to cancel, four months ago, the contracts it held with the airline Iberia, due to deficiencies in the service offered to passengers traveling between Spain and the Dominican Republic.

The information was provided during a meeting with journalists covering the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which is held in Madrid, where the official explained that the measure was adopted after evaluating the conditions of the aircraft used on that route.

According to Collado, the planes did not meet the size and quality standards that the country deserves as a first-class tourist destination. He indicated that, although the airline was summoned and committed to incorporating larger and more comfortable aircraft, the Ministry opted to terminate the contractual relationship. "We challenged Iberia. They told us they were receiving new, larger and more comfortable planes, and that they were committed to the Dominican Republic," said the minister. In that same context, Collado announced the signing of new agreements with European airlines, including Aerobroma and Condor, highlighting that the latter is Germany's main airline. He emphasized that Condor formalized the agreement directly in Dominican territory, without waiting for international fairs like the ITB in Berlin, which, in his opinion, confirms FITUR's positioning as a strategic scenario and the country's growing appeal in the European tourism market. "We closed with Condor, and this is important. Condor is Germany's main airline and traveled here to meet with the Dominican Republic. They could have waited for the Berlin fair, but FITUR has established itself as a regional fair of great relevance," he affirmed.
