Edesur puts new power transformer into service at Barahona substation

Santo Domingo. - Edesur Dominicana put into service a new power transformer at the Barahona electrical substation, with a capacity of 40 megavolt-amperes (MVA), which will significantly improve the quality of service to its customers.

More than 34 thousand users in the province directly benefit from the commissioning of the powerful equipment, an action that is part of an expansion and modernization plan that the company is executing in the short term, in order to increase its capacity to meet the energy demand in several areas of its concession area.

With the new transformer, which handles voltage levels of 69/12.8 kV, the aim is to reduce electrical interruptions, especially during peak hours, provide greater voltage stability, and offer a more reliable and continuous supply for residential, commercial, and industrial users in Barahona.

The equipment installation impacts six circuits, from BARA101 to BARA106, contributing to the strengthening of the electrical service in different sectors of the municipality, such as Blanquizales, La Playa, Barrio Enriquillo, Pueblo Nuevo, Alto Velo, Villa Estela, Palmarito, Los Guandules, Barrio 30 de Mayo, La Hortaliza, El Malecón, Riochill, among others.

It also benefits the municipal districts of El Cachón, La Guázara, Pescadería, Villa Central and the rural area of Santa Elena. Likewise, it favors the municipality of La Ciénaga and its communities Juan Esteban, El Quemaito, El Arroyo and the municipal district of Bahoruco in the coastal zone of Barahona.

Likewise, Edesur will provide a more efficient electrical service to the municipal district of Pescadería and its respective communities: La Hoya, Habanero, Hato Viejo and Come Callao, among other demarcations. These locations faced limitations in the electrical supply for years.

In addition, the distributor is focused on normalizing the service in Blanquizales with the aim of reducing illegal connections that affect breakdowns in the distribution network and cause service failures.

With these interventions, the distributor contributes to boosting local economic development and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants.

The power transformer installed in Barahona is part of a group of those pieces of equipment that arrived in the country in June of last year with the aim of improving the supply, in addition to this province, in Gran Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Peravia, San Juan, Azua and Elías Piña to benefit some 500,000 clients.

The initiative demonstrates the commitment made by Edesur Dominicana to guarantee a more efficient, stable service adapted to the growing energy needs of the area.
