Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, informed that the national blackout recorded this Monday morning originated after the tripping of the 138 Hainamosa–Villa Duarte line within the national electricity system. Santos indicated that, a few hours before the event, about 30% of the electrical system had already been restored, and assured that the process will continue progressively throughout the national territory. During a press conference held at the Energy Control Center of the Dominican Electric Transmission Company (ETED), the official explained that at approximately 10:50 a.m. the established protocols were immediately activated to restore service as quickly as possible.

"The goal is to act quickly in response to the population's concern, but also with the due care required in managing an electrical system of this magnitude," he said. The minister specified that the country's electricity generation was not affected, so the process of restoring service is supported by the intact generation capacity. He also highlighted that essential services such as hospitals, potable water systems, and urban transport have operated with relative normality thanks to their backup systems. The national traffic light system has also functioned regularly. Once the service is fully restored, the authorities will initiate a technical investigation to determine the exact causes of the incident.
