Opret Director assures DR is positioned as a regional benchmark in urban mobility

Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Republic is consolidating itself as a regional benchmark in sustainable urban mobility with the implementation of the Integrated Transportation System, an initiative that articulates high-tech infrastructure and social connectivity, based on concrete facts and not just speeches.

Jhael Isa, director of the Oficina para el Reordenamiento del Transporte (OPRET), stated this during the inauguration of Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro, which connects KM 9 of the Duarte Highway with Los Alcarrizos, covering 7.3 KM with 5 stations. Isa highlighted that since 2021 the Government started a project that is now a tangible reality. "This is change, progress, and development. What for many were plans or words, today translates into works that transform people's lives," she expressed. The Line 2C, which will begin operating this Wednesday free of charge until Easter, completes the Integrated Transportation System, interconnecting the city with a state-of-the-art metro system and high quality standards, which reaches the heart of the neighborhoods through its integration with the Los Alcarrizos Cable Car.

Isa underlined that this integration directly impacts communities such as Los Alcarrizos, La Pantalla, La Guáyiga, La Cuaba, Hato Nuevo and surrounding sectors, which are now part of a modern, accessible and sustainable network. "Today the city is more connected and reaches further, promoting a more human and environmentally friendly development," she affirmed. The Integrated System strengthens urban cohesion and positions the country as a model in sustainable mobility, a reference that is already beginning to be recognized in international publications from countries such as Costa Rica and Argentina. The inauguration ceremony was attended by President Luis Abinader, First Lady Raquel Arbaje, and municipal authorities.
