A man is arrested in Florida for the murder of his roommate in Pompano Beach

A Florida man was arrested early Tuesday as the alleged perpetrator of fatally assaulting his roommate, authorities said. The incident took place in a home in Pompano Beach located at 2912 Northwest Second Street, where emergency teams responded after receiving an alert about a lifeless person minutes before 1:00. The victim, Karim Shouman, 39 years old, was found without vital signs in the kitchen and his death was confirmed by the rescuers upon arrival at the scene. According to the report issued by the Broward County Sheriff's Office, Florida, the incident originated from a series of recurring discussions between Shouman and his partner, Shenard Jennings, 33, which led to a physical confrontation. "Jennings would have hit and assaulted Shouman, causing fatal injuries."

Authorities detailed that Jennings was arrested at the scene and faces a formal charge of first-degree murder. The area remained cordoned off while detectives from the Broward County Sheriff's homicide unit proceeded with the collection of evidence and the reconstruction of events to determine the motives that triggered the crime. The Pompano Beach Fire Rescue teams and the sheriff's office acted immediately after the emergency call received that morning. "Official records show that the conflicts between both parties had intensified during the previous weeks, with episodes of tension that finally led to the fatal outcome." According to court documents, Jennings remains in custody following his arrest and will be brought before a court for a preliminary hearing in the coming hours. As of the closing of this report, authorities had not released additional information about possible history of domestic violence between those involved. The identification of both the victim and the alleged aggressor was confirmed and notified to the family members in accordance with the protocol. Karim Shouman was thirty-nine years old, while Shenard Jennings is thirty-three years old at the time of his apprehension.
The investigation focuses on the environment and background of the cohabitation

The inquiries continue to focus on reconstructing the cohabitation of both men and on establishing whether there were previous signs of violent behavior or reports of assault.
The Broward County Sheriff's Homicide Unit, specializing in county homicides, has requested the collaboration of neighbors and witnesses to gather information to clarify the timeline of events that occurred at the residence in Pompano Beach. The dwelling was secured for several hours, during which forensic teams processed the scene and collected significant evidence, including biological samples and elements that could be relevant to the cause.

“Specialists ruled out the possibility of resuscitation maneuvers after certifying Shouman's death in the kitchen, indicating that the injuries sustained were incompatible with life.”

The accusation against Shenard Jennings includes the charge of first degree, classified by the legislation of Florida as one of the most serious crimes and which can carry the maximum penalty in the State.

The legal process is in its early stages and, according to official documents, it is expected that Jennings will appear before the judge for a bail hearing in the next 24 hours. The authorities collected statements from neighborhood residents to clarify key aspects of the relationship between the victim and the alleged perpetrator. In that vein, detectives are working to determine if there were previous complaints, testimonies, or indications of violent episodes that may have preceded the outcome. During the morning of Tuesday, the presence of patrols and forensic vehicles in the vicinity of the house generated concern among the neighbors, who expressed surprise at the magnitude of the operation deployed. The area was cleared once the work of the experts concluded and evidence was collected.

Open Investigation and Request for Witness Collaboration

Until the publication of this report, the office of the Broward County Sheriff maintains an open investigation and has urged anyone with relevant information, or who has witnessed previous incidents, to contact the detectives in charge of the case. Citizen collaboration is considered key to precisely establishing the chronology of events and to clarify whether there were precedents that could have been reported previously. The authorities reiterated their commitment to ensure transparency in the process and to provide support to the victim's family. Meanwhile, Shenard Jennings remains in custody, awaiting formal questioning by the corresponding court.
