133 deputies and 10 senators still haven't given an account

Santo Domingo.- More than eight months after assuming their positions, 133 deputies and 10 senators have still not presented their sworn declaration of assets before the Chamber of Accounts, failing to comply with what is established by Law 311-14, which grants a period of 30 days to officials to comply with this obligation. The information was released by the supervisory body, which during the weekend began a special day aimed at facilitating the delivery of these statements. The plenary session of the Chamber of Accounts, chaired by Emma Polanco, emphasized that this initiative seeks to promote legal compliance and reinforce the commitment of public servants to transparency and the good management of state assets.

For her part, Maritza Cruz González, director of the Office of Evaluation and Fiscalization of Heritage, indicated that some officials have already gone to the operation and others have been sanctioned with the suspension of their salary, as contemplated by current regulations. However, he clarified that in the case of the city councils, the Court of Auditors does not have direct authority to apply salary sanctions, due to their particular administrative regime. According to data provided by the institution, 2,660 municipal officials, 266 from district boards, 150 appointed by decree, in addition to the aforementioned congressmen, still have to submit their sworn statement. To expedite the process, the entity has incorporated public notaries who are responsible for legalizing the files on the spot, with the aim of reducing processing times and facilitating procedures. It was also reported that in the coming days, direct communication channels will be established with different city councils in the country, with the intention of achieving greater coverage in the fulfillment of this legal obligation.
