Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader presented this Monday the initiative Puntos VIDA, a network of safe, public and private spaces, designed to offer immediate attention, temporary shelter and connection with specialized services to women in situations of gender, domestic or sexual violence.
During La Semanal con la Prensa, the president highlighted that between 2015 and 2025, 842,288 complaints of violence were registered, and that 2025 achieved the greatest reduction in femicides in recent years (28.17%). "Gender violence is a problem for all of society and requires rapid and humane responses," he affirmed. You may be interested in: http://Abinader confirms installation of US camps in AILA and San Isidro
The Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, explained that VIDA —Surveillance, Identification, Reporting, and Assistance— will certify safe spaces in public institutions and private businesses. These points will be attended by trained personnel to provide immediate support, protection, and connection with 911, the VIDA Line, and protection services. Abinader announced that all ministries and government departments must first be certified as VIDA Points, setting an example for the private sector. The spaces must have a safe area, trained personnel, and official signage. The program will be coordinated with the VITALIA initiative of the Attorney General's Office and, after its implementation in the Government, will expand to supermarkets, plazas, gas stations, banks, and private health centers. "The goal is clear: that no woman is more than a few minutes away from a safe space," concluded the president.
