Bioanalysts demand Abinader fulfill salary increase agreed upon in 2024

Santo Domingo.– The Dominican College of Bioanalysts (CODOBIO) began a protest on Thursday in front of the National Palace to demand that President Luis Abinader fulfill the 25% salary increase agreed upon in November 2024 with the Government.

The president of the guild, María Esther Santos, demanded that the increase be fully applied to the bioanalysts in charge of clinical laboratories and units attached to the National Health Service (SNS), many of whom have not yet received the adjustment.

“Los acuerdos se hacen para cumplirse. Si no hay respuesta, seguiremos en pie de lucha, incluso con nuevas manifestaciones el próximo martes 5 de agosto”,

advirtió Santos.

The leader denounced that in the previous phases of the increase, applied in January and May, numerous professionals were left out under the claim that their functions were administrative, something she considered unfounded.

“El acuerdo establece que el aumento debe beneficiar a todos los profesionales del laboratorio clínico del sistema sanitario, sin excepciones. No es una negociación gremial como alega el Gobierno, es un compromiso oficial que no se ha respetado”,

sostuvo.
CODOBIO estimates that, if the agreement is fulfilled, the base salary of Bioanalysts would increase to around RD$ 51,600 monthly, a figure that, although still lower than the regional average in the public sector, represents a significant advance for the guild.

Santos reiterated that in addition to the picket in front of the National Palace, the plan of action includes concentrations in hospitals, national mobilization days and possible stoppages, if the authorities do not respond to their demands.

Last Tuesday, during a meeting held, the union announced the beginning of these actions in defense of the labor rights of the professionals of the laboratories of the Public Network and calls on President Abinader to listen to their claims.
