Santo Domingo.- The First Collegiate Tribunal of the National District decided to postpone until next Wednesday, June 18th at 11:00 a.m. the hearing to determine the coercive measure against Antonio Espaillat, owner of the Jet Set entertainment center, and his sister Maribel Espaillat, general manager, both linked to the tragedy that occurred on April 8th.
The Public Ministry seeks to impose preventive prison on the businessman, while house arrest is ordered for his sister, and they requested that the case be declared complex, due to the magnitude of the tragedy and the number of victims involved.
The defendants are accused of having acted with “immense irresponsibility and negligence” by not taking the necessary actions to prevent the collapse of the nightclub's roof, which resulted in a tragic toll of 236 people dead and more than 180 injured.
Antonio and Maribel Espaillat were arrested last Thursday after being questioned by Wilson Camacho, head of the General Directorate of Prosecution of the Public Ministry. The accusation alleges that the siblings had failed to carry out an urgent structural intervention in the building, despite being warned of the risk.
