Man arrested who appears in viral video firing a gun into the air during a discussion in Los Mameyes

Santo Domingo.- The National Police reports the arrest of a man who appears in a video released on social media while having a heated discussion with another citizen, during which he manipulated and fired a non-lethal pistol-type weapon, firing a shot into the air, in an incident that occurred in the Los Mameyes sector, Santo Domingo Este.

This is Mr. Ramón Flores, 69 years old, who voluntarily surrendered at the headquarters of the Santo Domingo Oriental Regional Directorate, after the aforementioned recording went viral, generating widespread public attention.

The incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. last Friday, August 2nd, when the detainee, aboard his 1996 red Toyota Corolla vehicle, was involved in a vehicular passage dispute with citizen Dany Joel Lantigua Valdez, 33 years old, on Respaldo 4ta. street, near a cockfighting ring in the aforementioned sector. During the altercation, the detainee pulled out a non-lethal pistol, brand Ekol, model Firat Magnum K, which he handled and used to inflict several "blows" on the other involved person, and subsequently fired a shot into the air with the weapon, whose ammunition was blank. The moment was recorded on video by the affected person himself and spread on social media, which led Mr. Flores to decide to surrender to the authorities. At the time of its presentation, the non-lethal weapon in question was retained, along with its magazine and five blank cartridges. The case is under investigation by the Public Ministry for the corresponding legal purposes.
