Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader issued this Thursday Decree No. 409-25, through which he calls the Senate of the Republic and the Chamber of Deputies to meet in extraordinary legislature from July 27 to August 15, 2025.
The presidential provision aims for both chambers to be aware of the bills pending on the legislative agenda, as well as those that may be introduced during this period, whether by initiative of the Executive Branch, by initiative of the National Congress, or by any other constitutional body authorized to submit legislative proposals. You may be interested in: http://Extienden legislatura al 5 de agosto para conocer el Código Penal
With this call, the president seeks to expedite the discussion and possible approval of initiatives that are in the legislative process and that, for reasons of schedule or priority, were not considered during the ordinary legislature. The decree establishes that the call is in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Dominican Republic, which allows the president to request extraordinary sessions of the National Congress outside of its usual schedule, when the national interest so warrants. So far, it has not been specified which projects will be prioritized in this legislature, although it is expected that in the coming days a detailed agenda with the topics to be addressed will be issued.
