Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader recognized this Friday the work of the forensic doctors who participated in the identification of victims of the Jet Set tragedy, describing their work as historic and fundamental to provide answers to the affected families.
A total of 71 forensic pathologists were honored for their key role in identifying victims after the Jet Set tragedy
In the meeting, which took place in the Green Hall of the National Palace, the president highlighted the exemplary work of the forensic team, who worked tirelessly during continuous shifts, managing to identify all the victims in record time.
“Both the rescuers and, you, did that job, you did it in record time,” the president stated.
The president told the doctors that he wanted to thank them personally, since during the initial congratulations some of the doctors were on duty. “Today is to tell you and reiterate, thank you very much from the bottom of my heart.”
The Head of State took the opportunity to announce that the Government is evaluating possible improvements to strengthen the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), an entity that operates independently under the Attorney General's Office, as well as Forensic Pathology.

President Abinader said that this unprecedented event not only shook the nation, but also drew international attention, mentioning that he received calls of solidarity from figures such as the King of Spain, Felipe VI and the businessman Michael Bloomberg. “When we delivered it, which we finished on Saturday, Bloomberg was surprised by the efficiency of the Dominican Government. The Government was you, who did that work,” said the ruler, highlighting the historic work of the doctors.
On his part, the Minister of Public Health, Doctor Víctor Atallah, said that the recognition was not only an act of gratitude, but also a commitment of the Government to improve the working conditions of these professionals. “The country is in eternal debt to you. Your silent but fundamental work allowed our families to say goodbye to their loved ones with respect and legality,” he stated.
It is recalled that the structural collapse of the iconic entertainment center, located in Santo Domingo, caused the death of at least 235 people and left more than 180 injured, mostly young Dominicans attending an artistic event.
