Representative Alcibíades Tavárez denounces abandonment of hospitals in San Pedro de Macorís

Santo Domingo.- The deputy of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) for the province of San Pedro de Macorís, Alcibíades Tavárez, denounces that the health system has practically collapsed in that city, as a result of the abandonment of its hospitals, which have become a true hell for the population, especially for people with fewer economic resources, who go in search of improving their health conditions.

“The Doctor Antonio Musa Hospital is the maximum expression of deterioration and inefficiency; there are no medications or supplies, the blood bank does not work, the operating rooms and the delivery room are in very bad condition, and the hospitalization area leaves much to be desired”, he pointed out.

The former governor of San Pedro de Macorís pointed out that in that hospital, which has been under renovation for almost five years and has barely 40 percent progress, he also said that the X-ray equipment is damaged, and that both the tomograph and the resonance equipment are privately owned, as patients must pay for the service.

"Regarding the Doctor Jaime Oliver Pino provincial hospital, I want to report that there are no orthopedists or urologists, there are no medications or any kind of supplies, the dialysis unit was started four years ago, and yet they still haven't finished it", he explained.

Alcibíades Tavárez also indicated that in this important healthcare center, the elevators do not work, so patients must be carried to take them to other floors, among other problems in different areas. The FP deputy stated that the healthcare system in La Sultana de Este is practically in a true "state of emergency", due to the inefficiency and ineptitude of the authorities, who have only brought promises to the residents of the different communities of that city.

"We used to see the director of the National Health Service (SNS), doctor Mario Lama, when he spoke in the campaign about his program in the health sector, I thought we were going to have a kind of paradise in the hospitals, but today they have become a hell for the poor," he said.

The congressman called on President Luis Abinader and the director of the SNS, Dr. Mario Lama, to come to the aid of the residents of that province, so that they can receive decent and humane medical care in health centers.
