Santo Domingo. - According to the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), this Wednesday, rainfall will increase due to a tropical wave in several regions, while weather conditions will be favorable, so that from early hours and during the morning, the east/southeast wind will drag humidity towards our territory, so that there will be cloud increases with showers and thunderstorms, especially in locations of La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís, Santo Domingo (including the National District), San Cristóbal, Peravia and Barahona, among others nearby.
In the afternoon, the interaction of a trough in the upper levels of the troposphere with local effects (daytime heating and orographic), will lead to the formation of clouds with great vertical development with locally moderate to heavy showers at times, thunderstorms and wind gusts mainly in provinces such as: El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Santiago, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Puerto Plata, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, San Juan, Independencia, Azua, Elías Piña and Monte Cristi. These precipitations will gradually decrease during the course of the night.
Tomorrow, Thursday, the influence of the upper-level trough and the incidence of a tropical wave will be generating an increase in humidity and instability over our forecast area, especially during the afternoon until nightfall, causing cloudy skies with scattered showers, thunderstorms, and possible wind gusts over locations in the regions: northeast, southeast, the Central Mountain Range, and the border area.
The thermal sensation will remain very high, due to the time of year (summer) and the warm and humid wind from the southeast. It is important that the population continues with the recommendation to drink enough fluids (preferably water) to maintain hydration, wear light-colored clothing, seek cool and ventilated places, avoid periods of greater sun exposure without protection between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. In addition, keep in mind children, the elderly and people more susceptible to suffering the effects of these high temperatures.
Cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico:
Due to its geographical position, evolution, and development, we are closely monitoring an area of showers and thunderstorms associated with an active tropical wave, located over the eastern tropical Atlantic south of the Cape Verde islands, which maintains a low probability of 30% to reach the category of tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours. However, for the next 7 days, atmospheric conditions look favorable for a gradual development, with a medium probability (around 70%) of reaching the category of tropical cyclone.
National District: Cloudy increases with passing showers and thunderstorms in the morning hours. Hot temperatures.
Santo Domingo Norte: a few short-lived showers in the morning hours with thunderstorms. Hot temperatures.
Santo Domingo Este: increasing cloudiness with passing showers and thunderstorms in the morning hours. Hot temperatures.
Santo Domingo Oeste: some cloudiness in the morning hours with passing showers and thunderstorms. Hot temperatures.
Temperatures: the minimum will be between 22 °C and 24 °C and the maximum between 33 °C and 35 °C.
Summary: In the morning hours, some cloud increases with showers and thunderstorms towards the Caribbean coast, due to the incidence of the prevailing east/southeast wind. In the afternoon, the trough aloft and local effects will cause moderate to heavy showers, isolated thunderstorms and possible wind gusts, mainly towards the regions: northwest, north, Central Mountain Range and border area. We are monitoring an active tropical wave located south of the Cape Verde islands... Hot temperatures.
On Friday, we will continue with an environment conducive to some showers and thunderstorms from the early hours of the morning in towns near the Caribbean coastal area. In the afternoon, the precipitation will be in the form of moderate to heavy showers locally, electrical storms and wind gusts in several provinces of the northeast, northwest, Cibao Valley, the Central Mountain Range and the border area, as a result of the trough at various levels of the troposphere and the humidity provided by the tropical wave.
