Santo Domingo.– The United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic informed that the closure of the office of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Santo Domingo is temporary and is due to an ongoing internal investigation.

The Embassy emphasized that the Dominican Republic continues to be a key partner in the fight against narcoterrorism in the region and assured that bilateral cooperation will not be affected."The Dominican Republic remains a key partner in our work to combat narcoterrorism throughout the region. That work will continue at the same solid pace between the United States Embassy in Santo Domingo and our Dominican partners, even as our internal investigation is carried out", the statement indicates.
The clarification comes after the DEA office closure was announced until further notice, which generated reactions in different sectors due to the impact it could have on joint efforts to combat drug trafficking.
