Panama City. - The National Aeronaval Service (Senan) of Panama reported this Sunday the seizure of more than three tons of drugs that were hidden inside a container at a pier in the Panamanian Caribbean.
"The seizure of 3,205 packages of alleged illicit substance is confirmed, hidden in a container transiting through Panama, at a port terminal in the Caribbean, province of Colón," reported the aeronautical authorities of Panama on X, and each package usually weighs approximately one kilo.
This week, naval air agents also seized 2.2 tons of drugs and arrested 5 people, including a Colombian, for their alleged connection to illicit substances, in different police operations.
Panama, a transit country for drugs produced in South America and destined for the U.S. - the world's largest consumer of cocaine - and Europe, seized around 80 tons of illicit substances in 2024, according to official data. EFE
