Vatican City.- Pope Leo XIV went this Tuesday to the headquarters of the Augustinians, the order to which he belongs in Rome, located a few steps from the Vatican, to attend a mass and then have lunch with them, as when he was a cardinal, confirmed to EFE Vatican sources.
Pope Leo XIV was prior of the Order of Saint Augustine from 2001 to 2013 and after being a bishop in Peru, he returned in 2023, after being appointed by Pope Francis as prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops.
There, the pontiff, the American Robert Prevost, used to have lunch with the community of friars of Via Paolo VI at the Patristic Institute Augustinianum, where there is also a court where he played tennis.
Normally, the pontiffs' day of rest is Tuesday, when they have no events or audiences, and Leo XIV decided to maintain the tradition of having lunch with his Augustinian brothers so he attended the 12:00 noon mass (10:00 GMT) and then stayed for lunch.

Last Sunday, the Pope unexpectedly visited, on the outskirts of Rome, the sanctuary of the Virgin of Good Counsel of Genazzano, much loved by the Augustinians, and on his return went to pray at the tomb of Francis in Santa Maria Maggiore.
For the time being, Leo XIV continues to reside in the palace of the Holy Office, at the entrance to the Vatican, while it is decided whether he will return to live in the apostolic palace or will prefer Casa Santa Marta, as Francis did.
In his travels these days, for the moment the new pontiff has not used the small white utility vehicle in which Francis used to travel and has resorted to a large black van.
