SANTO DOMINGO. – The Court of Appeals overturned this Tuesday the sentence against the Dominican baseball player Wander Franco, ordering the holding of a new trial on the case that involves him.
The decision comes after the player's defense, who has been facing legal proceedings since the end of 2023, presented various appeals that were ultimately accepted by the court. With this ruling, the case must be heard again from scratch, which opens a new chapter in the shortstop's legal situation.
Franco, who at one point was one of the main prospects of the Tampa Bay Rays in Major League Baseball, has seen his career stalled while the legal process advances. The announcement from the Court of Appeals represents a significant turn in the case, which has generated attention both in the Dominican Republic and in the professional baseball environment.
The new trial will have to establish dates and procedures in the coming days, while the judicial authorities formally notify the parties involved.
