Indianapolis, September 4, 2025. Indiana Fever star, Caitlin Clark, announced this Thursday that she will not play again for the remainder of the WNBA season due to a right groin injury that has kept her out of action since July 15th.

Clark, selected number one in the 2024 Draft and considered one of the most influential figures in the recent growth of the league, shared the news through her social media, expressing her frustration at not being able to return: “I spent hours in the gym every day with the sole purpose of getting back on the court. ‘Disappointed’ is not a big enough word to describe how I feel,” she wrote. The 23-year-old has dealt with multiple physical problems this season, including quadriceps and left groin ailments, as well as a bone contusion in the left ankle suffered in August. Despite recovery efforts, the coaching staff and Fever management decided to prioritize her long-term health. "Caitlin worked tirelessly to return, but time is not on our side," stated Amber Cox, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of the franchise. "Her well-being is the most important thing, and we want to have her at 100% for the start of the 2026 season." Before his definitive retirement, Clark averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 13 games, although he never managed to play more than five consecutive games. His absence has marked a complicated season for Indiana, who also lost Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, Sophie Cunningham and Chloe Bibby to injury. Even so, the Fever continue to fight for a spot in the playoffs, battling with Golden State, Seattle and Los Angeles for one of the remaining three tickets. Clark, who never missed a game in her college career or in her rookie year in the WNBA, leaves her second professional campaign unfinished, after having been selected to the All-WNBA First Team and finishing fourth in the MVP voting in 2024.
