Florida. — Former NFL running back Doug Martin, a standout for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a two-time Pro Bowl selection, passed away last Saturday at the age of 36, according to his family, as confirmed to Fox Sports.
"It is with great sadness that we inform you that Doug Martin passed away on Saturday morning. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Please respect our privacy at this time," the player's family said in a statement.
Martin was selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, at number 31, after an outstanding college career at Boise State. Since his rookie season, he impressed with 1,454 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, figures that earned him his first Pro Bowl selection.
In 2015, Martin shone again by adding 1,402 rushing yards and six touchdowns, a season in which he was selected to the First Team All-Pro. During his NFL career, he accumulated 5,356 yards and 30 touchdowns on the ground, as well as 148 receptions for 1,207 yards and two touchdowns.
