Boca Chica.– The generator AES Andrés, of 319 megawatts of natural gas, reestablished its combined cycle operations this Monday, after overcoming the effects caused by the massive presence of sargassum in the coastal area of Boca Chica, AES Dominicana reported.
The plant was re-integrated into the national electricity system at 9:00 a.m., after the company applied special cleaning protocols and intensive monitoring of the water intake, in order to guarantee the safety and stability of the service.
The accumulation of these macroalgae in the Caribbean has generated increasing challenges not only for tourism, but also for the country's energy and maritime infrastructure. AES Dominicana explained that it maintains active permanent mitigation measures, in the face of a phenomenon that occurs with greater frequency and intensity in the region each year.
With the reincorporation of AES Andrés into the system, the continuity and reliability of the energy supply are reinforced, at a time when national demand is at high levels."The plant's restoration is the result of the joint work of our technical teams, along with the authorities of the electricity sector and the Dominican Republic Navy, who supported the cleaning and sargassum removal process," the company indicated in a statement.
