New York. - Disney announced this Thursday that it will invest one billion dollars in OpenAI and will allow artificial intelligence platform tools, such as ChatGPT and Sora, to use its characters and properties to generate short videos from user prompts.
This three-year licensing agreement will allow users to generate videos of more than 200 Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar characters, something that Disney described in a statement as "a historic agreement to bring emblematic characters from all Disney brands to Sora."
Create images
"In addition, ChatGPT Images will be able to convert a few words from the user into completely generated images in seconds, using the same intellectual property. The agreement does not include images or voices of artists," notes the statement.
"Technological innovation has continuously shaped the evolution of entertainment, providing new ways to create and share great stories with the world," declared Robert Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company.
Expand Disney's Narrative
According to Iger, this collaboration expands "thoughtfully and responsibly" the scope of Disney's narrative through generative AI, "respecting and protecting creators and their works."
