Madrid.- The Japanese genius Akira Toriyama, creator of, among others, the legendary manga ‘Dragon Ball’, also put his art at the service of video games in classics like ‘Dragon Quest’. 26 years later, the successful seventh installment of this saga comes back to life with a completely updated release that maintains its original spirit.
'Dragon Quest VII Reimagined' (multiplatform) is the rebirth of one of the great classics of video games. A cultural phenomenon that broke the mold of an already consolidated saga after managing to sell, only in Japan, more than 2 million games in just three days since its launch back in the year 2000. Seventh installment of a saga with eleven main titles, and various 'spin-offs', which began in 1986 on the mythical Nintendo NES console and of which it is estimated that nearly 100 million copies have been sold in total. Comics, dolls, 'merchandising' and even an animated series support the franchise of the Japanese developer Square Enix. A legend that centered its success on a huge narrative structure full of missions and stories that, like a novel, intertwine with each other; a very long title of more than 120 hours of gameplay, different profiles with which to face the adventure and anime-style graphics accompanied by a technical section unprecedented to date. We recommend reading: Now, the arrival of this 'Reimagined' version has so many new features, both playable and graphical, that it could be considered a completely new title. Its visual section is sublime, with improvements that serve as a tribute to the legendary Toriyama, who passed away in 2024, and was in charge of bringing to life the monsters, creatures, and characters of the saga. The worlds now feature a diorama effect that favors rhythm and exploration (with significant improvements in their details), the three-dimensional characters are fluid and full of color, and the overall feeling is that of being inside an animated film.A TRIBUTE TO THE GENIUS OF AKIRA TORIYAMA
If in the original the combats took at least 2 hours to arrive and were random, inevitable and somewhat tedious, now the gameplay changes completely thanks to a much more direct experience, with automatic battle mode and key aids during the disputes.
Before, the enemies would assault you without warning, hindering your main mission, while now it is the player who decides whether or not to face them and rewards, in case the level is much higher than that of their rivals, with an automatic victory without the need to waste time or give up experience points. The chapter-based narrative helps to enhance the dynamics of the game, which is extremely long and dense in the original title, offering more time for exploration in a game where the objective is to find fragments of a stone that allow you to travel to the past to solve the future. Now, many of the mandatory missions from the game 26 years ago have been transformed into side quests and, to further streamline transitions, the possibility of running through the scenario from the beginning and making fast travels between zones is offered. The game's duration has also been balanced. Finishing this new 'Dragon Quest VII' can take about 50 hours, almost half of the original title, considered one of the most extensive role-playing games in video games. A title that brings back the flavor of classic adventures, based on the imagery of the unforgettable Akira Toriyama, updated for modern times, with less pause and greater fluidity, and which represents the best opportunity to relive an experience that is a love letter for lovers of epic, exploration and the best anime.
