Jealousy unleashes violent attack against woman inside bus in Honduras

Copán, Honduras. — A violent incident occurred inside a public transport bus in the municipality of Santa Rita, department of Copán, when a man attacked his ex-partner, allegedly motivated by jealousy. According to preliminary information and videos circulating on social media, the aggressor reacted upon seeing the woman sitting next to another passenger, whom he had assumed to be her new partner. In the middle of the journey, he initiated an argument that quickly escalated to physical aggression inside the transport unit. Witnesses indicated that the man got off the bus and returned minutes later carrying a bladed weapon, with which he attacked the woman again. Another person who was near the victim was also injured in the incident. Both injured people were taken to a medical center, where they received medical attention. According to reports, they are out of danger.

The National Police reported that the suspect was arrested and will be placed at the disposal of the competent authorities for the corresponding legal process. The event has sparked outrage among the population, reigniting the debate on gender-based violence and public transport safety.
