Santo Domingo.- Given the announcement of the active incidence of a tropical wave and a trough that will affect several provinces of the country, the Municipal Committee for Prevention, Mitigation and Response (CMPR) of the City Council of Santo Domingo Este met to define preventive actions, after declaring a yellow alert for the municipality.
During the meeting, led by Deputy Mayor Ángela Henríquez, the committee launched the permanent monitoring plan in the most vulnerable sectors of the municipality, as well as the activation of brigades to continue cleaning drains, canals, and verifying structural risks.
While the director of Civil Defense of Santo Domingo Este, Major of the Dominican Air Force, Juan José Campaña, informed that the meeting responds to the yellow alert call and recommended adopting mitigation measures.“It is essential to act with prevention and responsibility; our priority is to protect the population and strengthen response mechanisms to possible adverse weather events,” Henríquez pointed out.
Officials made a joint call to the municipalities to preserve life and stay informed with official bulletins issued by the corresponding organizations, avoiding false information.“We have already identified the vulnerable points of the municipality, as well as those of possible urban floods, falling trees and areas with high exposure to wind to act promptly if required”.
