Santo Domingo.- The Office for Transportation Reorganization (OPRET) reports that today the dynamic test with real load simulation was successfully carried out on Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro, known as Metro de Los Alcarrizos. This milestone confirms the progress of the technical validation schedule prior to commercial operation.
During the day, a train continuously traveled the 7.3 kilometers that connect the María Montez station with the terminal in Los Alcarrizos, passing through the five new stations. As it was the first circulation with real weight, the journey was carried out at medium speed, executing starting, acceleration, braking and stopping maneuvers on platforms.
The institution explained that, in order to replicate the operating conditions with passengers on board, a weight equivalent to 54 metric tons was placed, simulating a train at full capacity. This allowed for measuring the behavior of the rolling stock and infrastructure under real demand.
During the test, technical elements such as the behavior of the train and traction and braking systems under load, train-track interaction in tunnels and viaducts (vibrations, accelerations, and deformations within design parameters), alignment and opening of platform doors, accessibility and lighting, electrical consumption, and the response of the rolling stock during the journey were validated.
The executive director of OPRET, ing. Rafael Santos Pérez, highlighted the importance of this step to guarantee the safety of all users, who will enjoy a great work, built under the highest quality standards.
"This real-load test is a key step in certifying that the line operates with safety, stability, and quality when transporting thousands of users every day. This type of testing is carried out in accordance with international standards for the commissioning of metro systems, and is part of the technical protocol that ensures that the work is ready for public service. We are going to deliver a well-made work to Los Alcarrizos, with first-class technical criteria, to improve people's time and opportunities," said the official.
These verifications will continue over the coming months, with new tests and national and international certification processes. The official delivery to the citizenry remains scheduled for February 2026, as announced by President Luis Abinader.
OPRET reaffirms its commitment to transparency and quality in each phase of the process, and will promptly report on the progress of this work that will transform mobility in Greater Santo Domingo.
