Yelena Hazim Figuereo becomes the first woman to assume the General Secretariat of FEDOFUTBOL

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Football Federation (FDF) announced that its Executive Committee appointed Yelena Hazim Figuereo as the new general secretary of this institution that governs football in the Dominican Republic since 1953 and that is also one of the 211 FIFA Member Associations. Hazim thus became the first woman to assume the General Secretariat of the FDF in more than seven decades of history. The new FDF manager was in charge of the FDF's Development and Compliance Directorate for almost three years (August 2020 – November 2022), a period in which she fully fulfilled her role, also establishing good references with FIFA. In the sporting arena, he left a significant mark by being part, along with Carlos Ramírez, in the creation and implementation of the National Tournament of Associations and Clubs, a competition that has become a pillar for the development of youth football in the country.

Yelena Hazim is a native of San Pedro de Macorís, graduated in Political Science with a PhD in International Private Law and Dispute Resolution Methods. In the sports area, she completed a master's degree in International Sports Law and worked with the Puerto Rican Football Federation before joining the FDF.

"I take on this position with great pride and a lot of responsibility. I have a personal and professional commitment to Dominican football, and we are here to give it our all," were the first words of the new general secretary of the FDF.

"Happy to be back home. Eager to help, and work for our football. As long as we all row in the same direction, we can achieve great things," added Hazim. FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström contacted Hazim following the decision of the FDF Executive Committee, to express congratulations and best wishes for his management. The current Executive Committee of the FDF is developing the management period 2024 – 2028, chaired by José Francisco Deschamps.
