Leo XIV calls for responsibility and reason in the face of attacks between Iran and Israel

Vatican City.- Pope Leo XIV urged "responsibility and reason" and "the commitment to build a world free from the nuclear threat" in the face of the attacks between Iran and Israel in recent hours, during an appeal at the jubilee audience he held this Saturday in St. Peter's Basilica. "In these days, news arrives that greatly worries us due to the serious deterioration of the situation between Iran and Israel at this delicate moment, so I wish to strongly renew a call for responsibility and reason," affirmed the American pontiff.

He added that "the commitment to build a safer world, free from the nuclear threat, must be pursued through a respectful encounter and sincere dialogue to build a lasting peace founded on justice, fraternity, and the common good". "No one should ever threaten the existence of another and it is the duty of all countries to support the cause of peace, opening paths to reconciliation and promoting solutions that guarantee the security and dignity of all," asserted Leo XIV. Iran responded last night with at least three missile attacks against Tel Aviv, which have caused three deaths and about 38 injuries, according to the press of the Jewish State, as retaliation for Israel's past bombings. Also, Iran concluded that the nuclear negotiations with the United States "make no sense" after the Israeli attacks, although it is not clear whether it will attend the indirect talks on Sunday.
