Santo Domingo.– The president of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), Guido Gómez Mazara, enthusiastically announced that the grand launch of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) will be a reality starting in December of this year, marking a before and after in the technological history of the Dominican Republic. During his participation in the forum “Road to Digital Transformation”, Gómez Mazara confirmed that the country will take the expected technological leap, forever abandoning the analog signal that has dominated for decades.

“Goodbye to the blurry image and distorted sound! Starting in December, all Dominicans will be able to enjoy a clear, modern, free, and quality signal throughout the country,” proclaimed the official, visibly excited.

The process is already underway and the technical tests begin on July 1st in the Eastern region, as part of the schedule that will culminate with the definitive analog blackout on December 15th in the south of the country. Two key tests will follow: August 15th and September 10th, the latter with an uninterrupted digital transmission for 18 hours. Gómez Mazara did not limit himself to talking about technical advances. He emphasized that this transformation is, above all, a public policy of inclusion and social justice.

“In my childhood, watching television was a luxury. Today, thanks to this project, we are ensuring that right for everyone, regardless of their condition,” he expressed when highlighting the delivery of more than 900 thousand converter boxes to vulnerable families, in partnership with the IDB.

In addition to universal access, the president of INDOTEL emphasized that digital television also means more jobs, more investment, and more opportunities for the Dominican audiovisual sector.

“This is not just a channel change, it's an era change. Digital television boosts the economy, fosters new content, and generates real progress for thousands of people,” he stated.
