Instead, the club officially appointed Ray Montgomery as interim manager, while Ryan Goins will take the position of bench coach. Washington, 73 years old, stepped away from the team on June 20, after experiencing health problems that required specialized medical attention in New York. The Angels' general manager, Perry Minasian, explained that the team's priority is the veteran strategist's full recovery before considering his return.

"We are going to make sure to review every detail and that he is 100 percent before he returns to the dugout and to manage," said Minasian. "We know how important this job is, but there are bigger things than baseball, and health is the priority."

Washington, recognized for his experience and leadership, took command of the Angels at the beginning of this season with the intention of transforming the team's culture. His absence represents a challenge, but the club expressed full confidence in Montgomery, who was already within the coaching staff as a bench coach and has previous experience in management roles. Management did not provide further details on Washington's specific health condition, but reiterated that the focus will be on his overall well-being.
