Miami silences Minnesota: Agustín Ramírez and Eury Pérez lead Marlins victory

Miami.- On a hot afternoon at loanDepot Park, the Miami Marlins offered a recital of pitching and emergent power to defeat 4-1 the Minnesota Twins, in a game marked by the triumphant return of Eury Pérez and the offensive display of the young catcher Agustín Ramírez. The chronicle of this encounter begins early, when the Marlins didn't take long to strike. In the bottom of the first inning, Xavier Edwards got on base with a walk and then advanced easily on a single by Jesús Sánchez. The scoreboard opened after a run-producing groundout by Otto López, which was followed by a bang: Agustín Ramírez, the new Dominican sensation of the team, hit a two-run home run that shook the left stands and put the home team up 3-0. That home run was Ramírez's thirteenth of the season and confirmed his candidacy as one of the best rookies of 2025. With only 61 games under his belt, he has become a key piece in Miami's offensive machine. But the real spectacle of the day was offered by Eury Pérez, who returned to the mound as if not a day had passed since his last victory in 2023. Dominant from the first pitch, the right-hander pitched six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit, one walk, and striking out seven rivals, many of them with a powerful fastball and a devastating changeup. This performance earned him his first victory since his elbow surgery in April 2024, and the standing ovation from the public was proof of the emotion of the moment. The Twins, for their part, showed little ability to respond to the dominance of the Marlins' starting pitcher and bullpen. They barely managed to score in the seventh inning, when Matt Wallner hit a solo home run that momentarily cut the drought, but did not alter the course of the game. Miami's bullpen was equally effective. Cade Gibson, Anthony Bender, Calvin Faucher, and Ronny Henriquez completed the last three innings, with Henriquez earning his fifth save of the year with a perfect ninth inning. In contrast, Minnesota's opener, David Festa, although he showed flashes with seven strikeouts in six innings, took the loss by allowing the Marlins' four runs in the first half of the game. With this victory, the Marlins have their ninth win in the last ten games, solidifying a sweet moment that brings them closer to the fight for a wild card in the National League. The Twins, on the other hand, continue to show inconsistencies and have lost four of their last five games.

  • Saved: Ronny Henriquez (5)

Individual Analysis of the Protagonists

MIAMI MARLINS

Eury Pérez (Starting Pitcher - P)

  • Statistics: 6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K
  • Analysis:
He was the great protagonist from the mound. He dominated with his fastball and change of speed, showed composure and command. His return to the mound after more than a year out due to Tommy John surgery is encouraging for Miami. His mechanics looked fluid, and the velocity of his fastball (96-98 mph) was up to par with his best years. The confidence of his coaching staff seems to have been rewarded.

Agustín Ramírez (C - Catcher)

  • Statistics: 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI
  • Analysis:
He continues to establish himself as one of the best rookies in MLB. His 425-foot home run in the second inning was the emotional blow of the game. He has natural power, but also shows intelligence at the plate. With 13 home runs in just 61 games, he leads among rookies in that category. His defense behind the plate has also improved, effectively guiding Eury Pérez throughout the game.

Xavier Edwards (2B)

  • Statistics: 2 for 3, BB, 2 R, SB
  • Analysis:
He was the offensive catalyst from the first inning. He got on base three times, scored two runs, and stole a base. His speed and ability to read the pitcher allowed him to generate constant pressure on the opposing pitching. Fundamental as a leadoff hitter for a team that is not characterized by having much accumulated power.

Ronny Henriquez (CP - Closer)

  • Statistics: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
  • Analysis:
Adds his 5th save of the season. Dominant in the ninth inning with his slider as his main weapon. Although he is not a highly renowned closer, his effectiveness (ERA below 3.00) and his composure have made him a valuable piece of the bullpen.

Jesús Sánchez (OF)

  • Statistics: 2 of 4, 1 RBI
  • Analysis:
He drove in the fourth run and added two important hits. He is finding consistency in his batting, something the team needs from him. Defensively he was also solid.

MINNESOTA TWINS

Matt Wallner (OF)

  • Statistics: 1 of 3, HR, R, RBI
  • Analysis:
The Twins' only offensive respite. His home run in the seventh inning was a reminder of the power he has. However, his impact was solitary, with no runners on base and no subsequent reaction from the lineup.

David Festa (Starting Pitcher - P)

  • Statistics: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
  • Analysis:
He had a bad start that defined the game. Although he managed to recover after the second inning, the damage was already done. He showed good control and struck out seven, but he fell victim to Ramírez's power and the initial aggressiveness of the Marlins. He has projection, but he must work on his first inning, where he has had constant problems this season.

Willi Castro (IF/OF)

  • Statistics: 0 of 3, 1 BB
  • Analysis:
He was absent on the offensive side. He was placed in the second spot in the lineup, but he couldn't be that productive hitter that the Twins needed to support Wallner.

Carlos Correa (SS)

  • Statistics: 0 of 4, 2 K
  • Analysis:
Well below his level. He struck out twice and didn't connect hits. His season has been irregular, and in games like this his lack of offensive leadership is noticeable.
