São Paulo, Brazil.- The Supreme Court of Brazil authorized this Tuesday former President Jair Bolsonaro to leave his home for a medical consultation for the first time since August 4, when he began to serve a house arrest regime.

The hospital visit is scheduled for August 16th and the former ruler, 70 years old, will have a maximum of eight hours to be away from his home, according to the decision of Judge Alexandre de Moraes, the instructor of the case for coup against the far-right leader.

Bolsonaro's defense requested authorization for the former head of state to go to the hospital for a series of medical tests.

Bolsonaro has been under house arrest since August 4th for violating the precautionary measures imposed on him in the context of the trial in which the Prosecutor's Office accuses him of leading a coup against the current president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

At his residence in Brasilia, the ultra leader has been authorized to receive visits from some of his relatives without prior permission and from several allied politicians, with prior authorization from the court.

Bolsonaro's lawyers have until this Wednesday to present their final arguments to the Court in the trial.
