Santo Domingo. - The Public Ministry arrested a man trying to leave the country who was being pursued for the seizure of 3,004 packages (6,740 pounds) of marijuana seized last May at the Haina Oriental terminal by the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), with the support of the General Customs Directorate (DGA), State intelligence agencies and port authorities.
José Francisco Acosta de la Rosa's arrest occurred as he attempted to leave through Las Américas International Airport on a commercial flight to Lima, Peru, his detention being based on judicial order number AJ0026783.
The accused was found with a brown wallet containing 2,200 euros and 269 dollars. In addition, a passport in his name, the boarding pass, his ID card, and his driver's license. Also, a black backpack containing an Acer computer and several items of clothing.
Acosta de la Rosa is linked to the seized stash in an operation carried out by law enforcement with the support of canine units in the port of Haina Oriental.
It is recalled that after receiving intelligence reports, the authorities intervened a container with dozens of cardboard boxes, which according to the manifest was loaded with sand to be used in the spaces intended for the physiological needs of cats in homes.
Following instructions from the prosecuting attorney, the container was scanned on one of the X-ray machines, which detected suspicious images inside, so the action protocol for these cases was immediately activated.
Indeed, after a more rigorous inspection, a total of 115 boxes containing 3,004 packages of marijuana, all wrapped in luminescent paper, were found inside the container.
The container, originating from Guatemala, was shipped on March 16, 2025; subsequently, it arrived at the transshipment port in Panama on March 25, where it remained until its re-shipment on April 16, finally arriving at the port of Río Haina on April 22, 2025.
As part of that process, last May, agents and prosecutors moved to Residencial Garden City II, in Villa Mella, Santo Domingo Norte municipality, where, under order number 2025-AJ0026783, Marlon Darío Marzan Ramírez, Manuel Augusto Ramírez Sánchez, Maicol Ramírez Quezada and Jazmín Simeon Yena were arrested, who, according to the investigation, would be linked to this international drug trafficking structure.

In the intervention, two vehicles, several cell phones, cash, documents, and other evidence related to the investigation were also seized.
