President Luis Abinader says it's time for a woman to assume the UN secretary-general position

New York. - During his speech before the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), Dominican President Luis Abinader stated that it is time for a woman to assume the secretariat of the Organization.

"In the coming months, the Secretary General of the Organization must be chosen, and it corresponds to Latin America, I am convinced that a woman should hold the Secretary General position," the president specified before the 193 countries that make up the UN.

He emphasized that the United Nations must be transformed and that more openness to dialogue should be given.

He also said that the Dominican Republic reaffirms its faith in the UN in its principles and values, adhering to the motto "better together for peace and human rights"

He said that as a member of the UN, he wants a fairer order where the development of one does not mean the misfortune of another.

He pointed out that more spaces should be enabled to talk about global problems, climate change, tariffs, sargassum, among other challenges.
