Israel prepares to implement "immediately" the first phase of Trump's plan

The Israeli government announced that the country is preparing to "immediately" implement the first phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza to release the hostages "in light of Hamas's response." "We will continue to work in full cooperation with the president and his team to end the war in accordance with the principles set forth by Israel, which correspond to Trump's vision for ending the war," said the press office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a brief statement.

On Friday, the Islamist group Hamas declared its willingness to release the hostages under the premises of the plan designed by Trump and to immediately negotiate the details of the peace agreement. Trump celebrated the organization's decision in a video posted on his social media and applauded being "close to achieving" the end of the war in Israel in the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, it demanded that Israel immediately cease the bombings on the Palestinian enclave in order to allow for the release of the hostages who remain in Hamas' custody. The Tel Aviv government's statement makes no mention of the US president's request. Local media and Qatari television Al Jazeera report that the attacks in the Gaza Strip did not cease throughout the night. Previously, the spokesman for Gaza Civil Defense published on his Telegram channel that Gaza City was being subjected to "merciless bombings". The 20-point plan that Trump presented last Monday at the White House, accepted by Netanyahu during his visit to Washington, proposes the immediate end of the war, the release of the hostages by Hamas, and the formation of a transition government for Gaza that would be supervised by the US president and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. This roadmap also contemplates the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip and the possibility of negotiating a Palestinian state in the future, something ruled out, however, by the Israeli prime minister.
