Abinader will go to a global semiconductor meeting in the U.S.

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican president, Luis Abinader, will travel next Thursday to California (USA) to participate in the Annual Semiconductor Meeting, an event to which the Dominican Republic was invited, the president's office reported this Monday.

The Dominican Republic has been invited to the meeting, to be held in the Californian city of San Jose, for its "efforts and concrete actions, hand in hand with the private sector, to create a solid and reliable ecosystem, which consolidates the country as a safe destination for attracting investments in the semiconductor industry," the Presidency said in an official note.

"The participation of the Dominican delegation sends a strong message to the global industry about the country's commitment to technological development, innovation, and the creation of new opportunities for our people," said the ruler. The president will travel with the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Víctor Bisonó, representatives of that institution, as well as a commission from the private sector, in follow-up to the implementation of the National Strategy for the Promotion of the Semiconductor Industry (Enfis). The commission headed by Abinader will participate in an exclusive meeting with the main general managers of the leading companies in the global semiconductor industry and will hold strategic bilateral dialogues to continue positioning the country as a reliable partner for these companies seeking to diversify these production chains. Among the niches that will have priority is the manufacturing in the Caribbean country of discrete semiconductors and passive components, diodes, transistors, resistors and high-precision capacitors. Also the assembly, testing, and packaging for mature nodes, a labor-intensive finishing process, and the manufacturing and assembly of printed circuit boards. "Considering the current moment, this projection space for the Dominican Republic is truly unrepeatable. We hope it will be a successful journey for the good of the Dominican Republic," said the president. The meeting is organized by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), which brings together global leaders from technology companies, including the presidents of Intel, TSMC (a Taiwanese company considered the most famous in the world in semiconductors), NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Micron, the information added. With government support, there are already several Dominican free zone companies negotiating with these global companies so that they can establish themselves in the country, revealed Abinader.
