García Fermín: this government has impacted more than 200 thousand families with the scholarship program

Santo Domingo. - The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt), Franklin García Fermín, revealed this Monday that the scholarship program implemented by the government headed by President Luis Abinader has impacted more than 200 thousand Dominican families.

During an interview in the Tribuna de la Verdad space, by Z101, García Fermín stated that thinking about the well-being of the people and the preparation of young people, the president has transparently promoted an ambitious program of national and international scholarships, as well as training in foreign languages.

"The policy carried out by the Dominican Government of awarding scholarships, so that Dominican youth can prepare themselves, both national and international scholarships. We have awarded, jointly with the training in foreign languages, we have trained and at the same time impacted, more than 200 thousand families.

García Fermín specified that the first thing the Head of State did upon arriving in the Government was to create the National Scholarship System, created through decree 549-20, which establishes that the beneficiaries will be chosen based on merit, not through favoritism or relationships.

He argued that the system is fully automated, which guarantees participants that only those who meet the requirements will be chosen.

UASD budget doubled

Another of the great contributions of the present government to Dominican education is that the budget of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) received some 9,500 million pesos, an amount that currently exceeds 18,000 million.

"When the president arrived in 2020, the UASD's budget was 9.5 billion. Today it is close to, and will probably increase to, 18 billion. The UASD's budget is double now," he highlighted.
