Interior and Police and Metaldom destroy 3,945 weapons to prevent them from returning to the streets

Santo Domingo. – The Ministry of Interior and Police, with the support of the company Metaldom, destroyed this Tuesday 3,945 firearms that had been seized by the authorities. The process was supervised by the Interinstitutional Commission for the Destruction of Weapons, ensuring that these artifacts do not return to circulation.

Among the destroyed items were 1,580 pistols and revolvers, 233 shotguns, 2 rifles, 691 weapon parts, 200 homemade weapons, and 1,239 magazines.

Raful highlighted that the country continues to comply with the Roadmap for the Control of Weapons, a regional agreement to combat illicit circulation.

"Each weapon destroyed represents a life that could have been lost and a crime that was avoided. These weapons will no longer return to our streets," he expressed.

The act took place at the Metaldom facilities, in the Duarte Industrial Park, where the weapons were converted into ferrous scrap through a compression process. The country director of the company, Fernando De La Vega, explained that Metaldom supports these initiatives as part of its circular economy model, converting dangerous materials into reusable inputs.

Interior and Police assured that these interventions strengthen the National Citizen Security Strategy. It also recalled that, in February, the Dominican Republic and other countries in the region adopted a new Roadmap to prevent the illicit trafficking of weapons, promoted by the OAS and supported by international organizations.
