Community Development and Penitentiary Services formalize strategic alliance in favor of social development

Santo Domingo. – The General Directorate of Community Development (DGDC) and the General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement for the implementation of joint actions aimed at adolescents in conflict with criminal law. The agreement aims to strengthen training and education processes, as well as the provision of basic supplies and the monitoring of the socio-educational progress of adolescents who are under measures of the penitentiary and correctional system, in order to favor their effective reintegration into society. The signing took place at the Villa Consuelo Preparatory Institute for Young Ladies in the National District and was attended by the general director of the DGDC, Dr. Modesto Guzmán, and the general director of the DGSPC, Roberto Santana, who agreed that both institutions will coordinate educational programs, training workshops, psychosocial support and activities aimed at strengthening values, skills and competencies that facilitate the social and labor reintegration of the young beneficiaries. The head of Community Development, Dr. Modesto Guzmán, stated that the signing of this agreement reflects the State's commitment to Dominican society. "Today is a day of profound institutional and human significance. We gather to formalize an agreement that reflects a shared vision of working together for the dignity, rehabilitation, and social reintegration of people, I reaffirm our commitment to public policies that place the human being at the center of all action," said the DGDC official. While the general director of Penitentiary and Correctional Services, Roberto Santana, said that the initiative to work with the General Directorate of Community Development aims to build more inclusive, supportive, and safe environments, betting on education and training as fundamental pillars for social development. "This agreement enshrines the reciprocity of wills, since all positions are ephemeral, but the agreements must have continuity so that they are maintained over time," highlighted the head of the DGSPC. The General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services committed to facilitating the community brigades that integrate the inmates who belong to the Open Regime for the repair of homes of people with limited resources that the DGDC executes. Among those present from the penitentiary system were Carlos Manuel Guerrero Hernández, director of the Directorate of Comprehensive Care for Adolescents in Conflict with the Penal Law (Dinaia); Yenni Olga Hernández, director of correction centers; Julio García Segura, coordinator of the Office; Angelo Frías, legal; Víctor de La Paz, administrative subdirector, and Caliope Malena, of planning.
