The defendant in the murder of Charlie Kirk seeks to recuse the prosecution for conflict of interest

Los Ángeles.- Tyler Robinson, the alleged perpetrator of the death of the ultraconservative Charlie Kirk, requested this Friday before a court the withdrawal of the Prosecutor's Office due to an alleged conflict of interest in the case.

Robinson's defense argued during an appearance in a court in Utah (USA) that one of the prosecutors' sons was present at the event where Kirk was killed and recounted the event in a text message to his father.

"There is a high probability that, as a legal matter, a conflict of interest exists", indicated Robinson's defense attorney, Richard Novak. This fact "raises serious concerns about past and future decisions of the Prosecutor's Office in this case", according to court documents filed by the lawyers of the alleged perpetrator of the crime. For his part, Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Gray pointed out that the risk of such emotions affecting the impartiality of a parent in the role of prosecutor is practically non-existent, and dismissed the defense's attempt to delay the case with this motion. The Utah County Attorney's Office has charged Robinson with aggravated murder for assassinating the ultraconservative activist on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem last September 10, which was attended by more than 3,000 people. Robinson faces a total of seven charges, including one count of shooting a firearm causing serious bodily injury, in which the prosecution also alleges "aggravating factors" because it is believed that the defendant attacked Kirk "based on his political ideology and that he did so knowing that minors were present" who would witness the homicide. Robinson is also doubly accused of obstruction of justice for moving and hiding the rifle and for getting rid of the clothes he was wearing when he fired. The Prosecution has said it will seek the death penalty against Robinson, who has not yet made a formal statement on his guilt.
