Beijing.- The deceased in an explosion recorded this Sunday at a steel plate plant in the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia (north) have risen to six after the confirmation of the death of four of the eight people who remained missing after the accident.

More than 1,100 members of the rescue teams are still trying to locate the remaining four missing in the accident, which occurred around 3:00 p.m. local time (07:00 GMT) on Sunday at a Baogang United Steel factory located in the west of Baotou city. The accident also left almost 90 injured, five of them seriously, who have been treated in hospitals in the area. The cause of the explosion, which generated perceptible tremors in the surrounding area, remains under investigation, while the authorities have shut down the factory and initiated safety inspections of industrial facilities throughout the city. The Labor Safety Commission of the State Council (Executive) will supervise the investigation into the causes of the accident, according to an announcement made on Monday by the Ministry of Emergency Management, which urged maximum effort in rescue operations and to avoid secondary accidents during these tasks. Investigations are also underway to determine the environmental impact of the explosion, although for the moment no adverse effects have been detected in the air or soil quality, and the accident did not generate liquid waste either, according to the environmental protection departments responsible for the study. Industrial accidents are frequent in China, where lax safety protocols and insufficient enforcement of existing standards persist. In June of last year, an explosion at a fireworks factory in Linli County, in the central province of Hunan, left nine dead and twenty-six injured.
