The sanction comes into effect as of this Saturday, January 31st, the date on which the Sixers will face the New Orleans Pelicans, and the player will not be able to return to the courts before March 25th, according to the league's official information. George issued a statement in which he took full responsibility for what happened, explaining that the breach occurred while he was seeking medical treatment.

“In the process of addressing a personal matter related to my mental health, I made the mistake of taking an inappropriate medication. I take full responsibility and apologize to the organization, my teammates, and the Philadelphia fans,” the player expressed.

The veteran added that he will use the suspension time to focus on his physical and mental recovery, with the aim of returning in optimal conditions to help the team. Paul George signed with the 76ers in 2024 after leaving the Los Angeles Clippers, through a contract of four years and 212 million dollars. In the current season he has played 27 games, averaging 16 points in 30.5 minutes per game. The player also missed the first 12 games of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, an injury suffered during a training session. This is the 16th season in George's NBA career, since he was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the 2010 Draft.
