The 17 deaths were recorded as of last Friday, before the weekend when temperatures dropped again to very dangerous levels, according to a spokesperson for the state's Department of Health, Janie Thompson, cited by the media. He also indicated that state officials are working to obtain updated information on the weekend's cold snap, in which an Arctic front reached the northeast. Among the deaths is a 65-year-old man who lost his life while shoveling snow on January 25.
