Abinader reiterates before Senasa case will not tolerate impunity "even if it comes from the same government"

Santo Domingo. – President Luis Abinader affirmed this Monday that his government will not tolerate acts of corruption “even if they come from the same government,” when questioned on La Semanal about the denunciation that the National Health Insurance (SENASA) had disguised as millionaire purchases medicines and vaccines delivered free of charge by the Ministry of Public Health.

“We do not accept acts of corruption and we are going to eliminate the impunity that has existed for decades and for years, even if it comes from the same government, therefore, we are going to wait,” the president responded to the press's question.

The statement comes after the Ministry of Public Health confirmed that, through the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), it transferred medicines and vaccines free of charge to SENASA, which were later reported by that institution as millionaire acquisitions. According to a source, the supplies were delivered free of charge thanks to the revolving fund of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). However, preliminary investigations reveal that several authorized private centers received these free medications and then billed SENASA as if they were purchases on the market. SENASA, in turn, recorded these payments as operating expenses, when in reality they were products delivered free of charge to the country. Estimates suggest that the fraud could exceed 700 million pesos, with a single private center, linked to a business group, that would have invoiced up to 500 million solely for vaccines.
