Santo Domingo, DN. – The National District City Hall reinforced the usual preventive work and the cleaning of drains and filters to reduce the effects of a trough and a tropical wave, whose rains may affect the capital.

In its report this Thursday, the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) predicted that from the early hours of the morning, cloudiness with variable intensity precipitation, thunderstorms, and wind gusts will be recorded in several areas of the country.

In that sense, the council's measure seeks to increase cleanings at geographical points in the capital, which have been previously identified as critical, to guarantee the flow in collectors, filters and drains, which are vital elements for rainwater drainage. The council brigades increased the usual operations, being accompanied by suction trucks in the cleaning work in some of the main roads of Santo Domingo, as well as in others that are critical points. Preventive works have been carried out on Cayetano Germosén avenues (KM 8), John F. Kennedy, 27 de Febrero corner Dr. Delgado, Caonabo, George Washington with Socorro Sánchez and Federico Geraldino, among other points. In addition, council workers have carried out ditching work to keep containers, streets, and sidewalks clean. In the middle of the year, the city council installed rain traffic lights that indicate the level of water accumulated at critical points, such as the surroundings of the Paraíso Club, the surroundings of the Los Prados Club, V Centenario at the underpass of Tunti Cáceres and Peña Batlle, Teleantillas surroundings, among others. The Mayor's Office of the National District insists on its call to the population not to put out the trash in front of their houses during times of rain or when heavy rains are expected, as they can be carried away by the water and obstruct the drains.
