Santo Domingo,.- Lawyers Leucividys D. Minaya Rosario and Marco A. Rosario González, legal representatives of the lady Yanelis Coromoto Farías Figueroa, filed a formal complaint with the Inspectorate General of the Public Ministry against three prosecutors attached to the Department of Gender and Intrafamily Violence of the National District, for alleged negligence in the handling of a serious case of gender violence.
The prosecutors named in the action are Belkis René Rodríguez, director of the aforementioned department; Rossi Meléndez Santana, former member of the same; and Adalgisa Taveras. The complaint is based on the alleged prolonged inaction of the Public Ministry in the face of a complaint filed on November 10, 2023 against Mr. Yanko Iván Holguín Meléndez, for alleged acts of barbarity, violence against women and illegal deprivation of liberty.
According to the lawyers, after more than eight months since the filing of the complaint, the prosecutors have not carried out any investigation, despite the fact that it included clear proposals for action, such as the request for information from mental health centers allegedly involved in the events.
As detailed, Mrs. Farías Figueroa would have been held against her will in several mental health centers, including Buen Hogar, Renova and the clinic of Dr. Fernando Cuello Pérez, without a court order or prior medical diagnosis. The legal representatives allege that these internments would have been orchestrated by her ex-partner from abroad, in complicity with third parties.
"The procedural silence on the part of the appointed prosecutors represents an institutional re-victimization and contributes to impunity. Our client has been subjected to physical, psychological, and now legal harm, in the face of the indifference of those who have the responsibility to protect her," declared lawyer Minaya Rosario.
The complaint requests the Inspector General to investigate the causes of the alleged omission and immediately order the summons and interrogation of doctors Jarvis Hazim, Fernando Cuello Pérez and Larry Gómez, who allegedly participated in the forced internments.
The lawyers indicated that this action aims to ensure justice for Mrs. Farías Figueroa and that those responsible face the consequences in accordance with articles 309-1, 309-2, 309-3-F and 309-3-H of the Dominican Penal Code.
